A day in Dunedin isn’t really long enough.
But it’s all had in a recent trip down the South Island of New Zealand. My friend and I picked up a car in Christchurch and made our way down the island to Dunedin. The main reason for going was to attend our good friend’s wedding (eep! Congratulations!), but we decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a break and explore some of the south.
The wedding was the Saturday, so on the Sunday we hoped in the car and took a drive. After wandering around the CBD for a little while, and seeing the famous Dunedin train station (and making a booking for later on in the day to go to the Cadbury Factory – more on that soon!), we found ourselves lunching at ReBurger (highly recommend!), popping into the incredible University Book Store, and then taking a visit to the beautiful Botanical Gardens.
Just before we decided we had had adventuring for the day, we made a quick stop off at Baldwin Street, which is the steepest residential street in the world. In the world, friends. While there was no way I was walking to the top, my friend decided she’d run it…as one apparently does. I waited for her mid-way up.
The next day we said goodbye to Dunedin, and made our way back to Christchurch, via Oamaru (look out for that post coming soon!). Dunedin is great city to explore, and we definitely had a great time there.
Do you have a favourite Dunedin spot? What would you recommend seeing if we were to head back?
