Over the NZ summer my friend and I headed to Christchurch Adventure Park.
I hadn’t actually heard of it until we touched down in Christmas just after New Year’s. We had just 2 days in Christchurch before we continued our journey south, and day one saw us without a car. Another friend suggested we check out the Christchurch Adventure Park and offered to drop us off and pick us up (thank you!). Turns out, it was pretty awesome.

Christchurch Adventure Park is a “base for epic adventures and chilled out downtime”, according to the website, and I couldn’t agree more. Set in the Port Hills behind the city of Christchurch, the Adventure Park is a fantastic combination of outdoor activities, including bike trails, zip lines, and sightseeing. From observation, most people go for the epic downhill bike trails and the zip lines adventures, but we, having no desire to get dirty and sweaty and dust-covered on a bike (nor did we have a bike), opted for the 1.8km chair lift up the hill.

The longest chair lift in the country, the ride is pretty epic. 1.8km is a long way, especially when you have your feet dangling into wide open spaces below you. The view from the top is incredible, and would be even more so on a nicer day. Outstretched before you is the Garden City, to the right the town and harbour of Lyttleton, to the left the stunning Southern Alps. While there’s nothing to do other than stare at the view when you get up there, we sat for a while on some rocks and watched the bikes zoom down the hills below us.
If you’re in Christchurch on a nice day, then it’s definitely a great place to go get that spectacular view. Check out the website for more details!
