Like all years, it’s good to look back and remember what happened. 2017 is no different.
This time last year I was writing about the dumb year that was 2016. While 2017 still had a lot of horrific things happen, I can’t help but think we took a step in the right direction this year. It was a little better than the year before, and if that’s all we get out of it, then so be it.
I’ve gathered together just a slice of 2017 for you, recalling some of the good things that happened, some of the tough times, some celebrity news we hate to love (or love to hate, depending on who you are), and some downright odd, confusing times.
Some good times…
(and some which have come out of horrible situations)
Unsigned Chance the Rapper won 3 Emmys with his stream-only album. That’s pretty impressive.
We Dine Together was started in Florida, a high school club that makes sure no one sits alone at lunchtime. This is a beautiful idea.
The #MeToo movement.
The Women’s March happened worldwide January.
This Tweet had quite a number of likes, and I’m not used to that. Hazaa!
I joined the NZ Post Secret Santa, and it was pretty neat. Shout out to my amazing secret santa!
The Kaikoura road has been reopened on the earth-quake torn east coast of New Zealand.
Judgemental Fish Nuns in The Last Jedi.
And all these Harry Potter titbits of information were released throughout the year.
Some tough times…
There were shootings, bombings, and horrific deaths across the world.
Some celebrity times…
Speaking of the Royals, Will and Kate are having a third baby due in April.
And just one more Royal-related piece of news: Pippa Middleton was married to James Matthews.
Sir John Hurt, Tom Petty, Hugh Hefner, Roger Moore, Chuck Berry, Bill Paxton, Miguel Ferrer, and many more all passed away.
And some confusing times…
Unicorn theme food happened. Not a bad thing, not a great thing. Just a little odd.
Disney bought Fox. Which is weird to me, but I guess you don’t question Disney … buuuut … hmmm.
They’ve released the first trailer for the remake of Little Women, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I like the idea of a series, but I love the 90s movie, so still unsure. Time will tell.
The Salt Bae guy.
This is just a glimpse into the year that was. There are so many more events, situations, and news that I could add, but we’d be here till 2019 if we do that.
Like all years, 2017 has been a year of ups and downs, of great times and some really tough times. It’s been a year of learning, inspiring, growing and revolutionising. I feel like it wasn’t as bad as 2016 (the year we no longer speak of), but wasn’t quite the epic year that we were perhaps hoping for.
Here’s to you, who made it through another year. *raises glass* May our global 2018 be the best one yet.
See you, 2017
