We’ve hit July; so how did Junk Free June go?
If you cast your mind back to the beginning of June then you will recall my post on Junk Free June. In short, for the month of June I was giving up junk food and raising money for Cancer Society NZ. But as well as just junk food, I gave up some junky things too. Today I thought we’d recap the month and see how I did.
What I aimed to do
- No junk food (including white bread)
- No receiving more plastic bags from supermarket/stores (either re-using bags I already have or going for cloth)
- Send at least one bag of clothes to the opshop
- Give away, donate or throw things I no longer need or use
- Clean out and sort my craft room
So how did I do?
Well, I managed to complete the month without junk food. This included no white bread and no dessert of any description.
I only took one plastic bag from a store, and that was on day 2 simply because I forgot until I walked out. Oops. I reused lots of plastic bags I already had, and took cloths bags to the supermarket for groceries.
I sent a bag to the opshop, which was great. It included some clothes, some items in my room that I hadn’t used in an age and had no use for any more. Hopefully someone can benefit from some of the things.
Alas, the only thing I didn’t manage to properly do was clean out and sort out my craft room. But in my own defense, I did spend a whole week of June away and life as been super busy recently. Hopefully I can get to it after July. Fingers crossed.
Not too bad, really! I actually don’t find not eating junk food that hard. I think because I don’t actually eat much of it to begin with, it wasn’t that difficult. The hardest things was the plastic bags I think; consciously making an effort not to take plastic bags at stores. If I forgot my own bag, then I made myself carry whatever it was I had bought. It’s amazing how many plastic bags we accumulate in a month. Probably a good thing to take up going forward too.
What about you?
Did you do Junk Free June? How did you do? Did you find cutting out junk food difficult? Or did you surprise yourself? Let me know!
