Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor, and I’m cool with that.
In fact you may say I’m excited, ecstatic even, at the choice for Doctor number 13. The casting for the latest regeneration of Doctor Who’s leading character was announced after the Wimbledon men’s final, which means it was around 4am in New Zealand. While I didn’t set my alarm to wake up that early, it was the first thing I did when I got up, and it could not be a better way to start a Monday.
I’ve watched the short sneak peek 1 minute trailer about 10 times already, and it never ceases to make me giddy with excitement when that hood comes off and boom! Doctor 13 is standing in all her Time Lord glory. Check it out:
Jodie Whittaker is going to bring a new spin to the Time Lord we all know and love, and I can’t wait to see what personality traits she brings to the character. When current companion Bill Potts gets back from running around the universe with Heather, it’ll be interesting to see that slight change in relationship between the Doc and her companion. Or whether Bill won’t be coming back. *shrugs*
With any role change like this, especially for Doctor Who, there are going to be people who don’t like the change, and the internet sure has slammed Chris Chibnall and the Who team for their casting. They’ve even slammed Jodie Whittaker herself, which I think is an outrage because she hasn’t even started yet. Before I lose my cool at those people and I, myself, become a raging lunatic online, I have to say that I applaud the decision of a woman Doctor and I’m super excited about where this is headed.
Christmas can never come fast enough, but this year especially. While I thought we were going to have to wait longer for the announcement, it was so prompt. Yes we’ve been waiting over 170 days from when it was announced that Peter Capaldi was leaving, but it was only 1 day between ‘we’re announcing it’ and it being announced. I’m okay with that.
My favourite thing right now? Imaging Twelve regenerating into Thirteen and realising that not only is he still not ginger, but he has breasts.
What do you think about the announcement? Are you as excited by it as I am?
