Good Reads Challenge Mid-Year Update 2016

Well we’re half way through another year (can’t believe I just wrote that), so it must be time for another Good Reads Challenge mid-year update. This year I’ve managed to listen to quite a few audio books, the count currently being at 3, which is more than my usual at 0-2 per year. This was mostly due to the fact that I had weeks on end of horrifically boring but apparently necessary sorting to do at work. As well as catching up on various TV shows during that time, I listened to audio books. Now that that has been completed (hallelujah) I’m back to the normal jobs, which calls for more brain power, and therefore less audio books.

I’ve also read a lot of books from Hachette Publishing NZ this year, all of which I’ve really enjoyed. I think I’ve finally really sussed out what books I request to review from them each month, and not just choose a book because I can. I’ve been choosing books that I really would love to read, and it’s paying off. I’ve really enjoyed the books so far this year, and received an awesome proof pack for the release of the final in Justin Cronin’s series, The City of Mirrors.

Favourite books

So far I’ve had a few favorites already – you know it’s going to be a good book year when you start off with a bang – including The Bane Chronicles, by Cassandra Clare and others; The Queen of the Tearling, by Erika Johansen; and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs. All three quite different, but in a wonderful way. I’m also reading All the Bright Place by Jennifer Niven, and Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare at the moment, and loving both of them a lot!

My favourite read from Hachette Publishing NZ this year so far has probably been The Darkest Part of the Forest, by Holly Black, although The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin was long but pretty good.

I’ve also listened to a couple of audio books this year, a favourite being The Traitor Game by B.R. Collins.

Books I plan to read next

When I finish a book, only occasionally do I have another one lined up and ready to go, unless it’s one sent to me for review by Hachette. There are several books, though, that I really want to read and I must read (she’s says with determination). One of those book being Lady Midnight, by Cassandra Clare, which, as I mentioned, I’m currently reading. I bought this as soon as it came out, and it’s taken me this long to get around to reading it. I partly blame The City of Mirrors for this, but at the same time, it was a great book so can’t complain too much.

I also have a bunch of new-ish-tome (as in they’re been out for a while, but I’ve purchased them in the last year) YA books that I really want to read and yet it just hasn’t happened yet.  Including Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, by Jesse Andrews; Red Rising, by Pierce Brown … just to name a few. I also must read A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J Maas.

And then there’s the books that are next in series that I love and haven’t read yet. Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows, by Sarah J Maas, I’m looking at you.

Seriously. I need to read these.
