I hate dates. Like, a lot. Blergh. But let me tell you, I love this Date Chocolate Torte. Yes, it’s made from dates, but when they are mixed with chocolate and almonds, you can’t really taste the date-ness in them. So even if you’re like me, and you’re not a fan of dates, do have a go at the recipe anyway, because it’s delicious!
What you’ll need:
How to make the Date Chocolate Torte:
3. Using a food processor, whiz up the almonds and the chocolate until it’s in small portions. The recipe in the book says ‘until fine’, but we’ve found if you whiz it until just before ‘fine’, then it gives the torte a nice and interesting texture.
5. Putting those aside for now, use electric beaters to beat the egg whites until they are very thick. Think peak-making, think ‘I should be able to create a mountain with this’…that kind of thick. Slowly add the sugar, beating as you go.
7. Spoon the mixture in your tin, and smooth over. Place it in the oven and cook for 30-35minutes, or until the torte starts coming away from the walls of the tin.
See? Really simple and it doesn’t take long at all. Do let me know if you’ve tried out the Date Chocolate Torte, and what you think of it. Thank you to the Murdoch Books Test Kitchen for this recipe.
