Along with New Wine conference, this past (NZ) summer also involved heading along to Festival One at Mystery Creek in Hamilton. Festival One is a Christian music festival, which is sort of the reborn version of Parachute, which was also a music festival, but that ended a few years back. Festival One has taken it’s place, and while it’s a lot smaller than Parachute, it was an amazing weekend.
My church was using the festival sort of like it’s church camp, so a bunch of us from my home group headed along. We were all tenting, which was fine…until it wasn’t. We got there after dark, so had to set up the tent in only a little light. The ground was like concrete, and I felt every time I smacked a tent peg into the ground it hit a boulder. After we got it up, it was fine all weekend…until the second to last day, when it was suddenly a mini storm, with heavy rain and wind. We got back to our tent and three tent poles had snapped. Sigh. So I got out the duct tape and did my best to fix it so it was night-savvy. We made it through the night with a broken tent, so it was all fine and dandy. Just a bit annoying really.
But anyway! Enough of that! From about 9:30am till after midnight every day there were music artists and a few seminars that you could go to. There were so many great artists there, but my favourites were definitely All Sons and Daughters and Bethel Music. If you know anything about Christian worship music, then you’ll recognise both these names. It was so incredible seeing Jeremy Riddle and Amanda Cook with Bethel Music, and it was an incredible night when they played. All Sons and Daughters were also amazing, and as was Worship Central, which is a New Zealand wide band that draws on musicians from Auckland, Wellington and more. Very cool.
I’ll stop going on now. Here are some of the photos I took over the weekend. Enjoy!
You should probably head along next year. As you can see, it was a pretty amazing weekend!
