Subscription Box :: The Book Drop :: Bethany Beach Books

In a flurry of excited realisation that subscription boxes not only exist but are awesome, at the end of March I sort of went mad a subscribed for a bunch of different monthly subscription boxes. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, they are basically a (usually) surprise box of goodies that is sent straight to your door every month. There are heaps of different ones out there in the world ranging from beauty products to crafty boxes, from fandom boxes to book boxes.

So because I was trying the whole subscription box thing out, I signed up for a few different ones, in varying themes. While I signed up for them at the end of March, I think for the majority of them I was a few days late in getting the March boxes, so the ones I’ll be receiving will be the April ones, probably in a few weeks time, given that I live at the bottom of the world and posties can’t just apparate packages everywhere (although how cool would that be?!).

The Bethany Beach Books Book Drop

The first box that arrived was a book from The Book Drop, which is a monthly book subscription box, by Bethany Beach Books. I loved this as soon as I saw it.

Bethany Beach Books are an independently owned bookstore in Bethany Beach, Delaware, United States. Their monthly book box is super neat.

First you choose the type of books you’d like: The Jane (“Contemporary + Historical Fiction, with a sprinkling of Literary Fiction books”), The Ernest (“Thriller + Action novels, with a sprinkling of Non-Fiction books”), Children 8-12, or Young Adult. I chose the young adult option, and from there you can choose Adventure and Action, Love and Romance, or A Little Bit of Everything. And then you select your gender, and finally choose how long you’d like to receive the monthly box for.

You can check out their prices here, but I bought the one month option, and it was $16USD. If you live in the US, then it’s free shipping (hazaa!). If you don’t, however, then you have to take shipping into account. For them to send the book all the way to New Zealand, it cost $14.99USD. Now, combine that and then do the exchange rate at the moment…that’s quite an expensive book. I didn’t mind paying it for the first time, to check out the box (which I’m getting to in a moment), but I cancelled my subscription because I can get books way cheaper just by popping down to the local book store here. If you live in the US though, $16 for a surprise book every month!? Ah, yes please! That’s awesome! I just need to move countries…

So, to the actual book…here’s what I got! It comes in a simple box, and contains the book, a bookmark from Bethany Beach Books, a sticker, and then also a newsletter/catalogue type pamphlet about book news and new books.

The description of the book, The Winner’s Curse, by Marie Rutkoski, on Good Reads says:

I hadn’t heard of this book before, but it sounds all kinds of fun, and it has a Goodreads 4.7 star rating. I’m looking forward to giving it a read.

I don’t know what the postage pricing is to other countries, but it’s nearly the same price as the book if you’re here in NZ. Such fun though!
