Like last year’s post, I thought I would be a fun idea to share with you my top 5 reads of 2014. 2014 was a good mix of books, I think. While, actually, they were mostly YA or fantasy novels, I did get them from different sources. I bought a lot of books last year (despite my complaining at the beginning of the year that they are super expensive here – and they are, I’ve just managed to find a lot of bargain-bin books and good deals), I’ve bought some on my Kindle too, and have received and reviewed books thanks to Net Galley.

It was also a bit of a mix of new and re-reads. Normally I try not to re-read books until the end of the year, when I know I’ve completed my Good Reads challenge (post on that coming up soon!) for the year, and I feel better about re-reading. This year I re-read The Giver, by Lois Lowry, and also City of Ashes, City of Glass, Clockwork Angel and Clockwork Prince, all by Cassandra Clare. I’ve had some books that I really didn’t enjoy, and also ones that I was a little disappointed in. But that’s not today’s post. Here are my top 5 favourite books of the year, no including re-reads.

Into the Still Blue, by Veronica Rossi

I do believe that the first in this series, Under the Never Sky, was a favourite from 2013. *double checks that post* Yup! It was! And the second one too. I really loved this series. I thought it was great, and the final installment was a great way to finish up the series.

Eleanor & Park, by Rainbow Rowell

I know that I’ve sort of gone on about this book a bit this year, but it’s a great one! Definitely a favourite of the year. It’s so super cute, and if you haven’t picked it up yet, what are you waiting for? Do it! I loved it so much it was one of the books you could have won in my 4 year Blogoversary giveaway back in August.

Sidekick, by Auralee Wallace

This book I received from Net Galley for free, for an honest review. And I loved it so much! It was a great book, and I never thought that I’d really enjoy a super-hero based book. If you’re after a fast paced, funny book with great characters, do give it a go! You can read my review of it here.

Dorothy Must Die, by Danielle Paige

Loved loved loved this book, and I’m still annoyed the second one isn’t out yet. I need to get it. It’s a great spin on the story of Oz we all know and love. This was another book that was in my blogoversary giveaway. That’s how brilliant it was.

Throne of Glass, by Sarah J. Maas

I had heard about these books, and while I hadn’t really read an assassin book before, this one gripped me start to finish and I was drawn in by the characters, the story, the setting, everything.

I didn’t actually read very many 5 star books this year (other that re-reads of Cassandra Clare’s novels), but these 5 books were all 5 stars. I hope to read more 5 star books this year, and there are some that I’m really looking forward to reading!
