Let’s Talk About | Between the Lines (aka: the most beautiful book)

This isn’t a book review, of the usual kinda anyway. I haven’t read this book yet, but when I read the description of it in the airport shop the other month, I really wanted to. I was going to buy it then and there, but for some reason, I didn’t. I’m so glad I didn’t buy it! A few weeks later I was in Paper Plus, and I saw it on sale for nearly half the price as it was in the airport, and it was a much cooler version/edition. In fact, it was the most beautiful book ever. So pretty, in fact, that I didn’t really want to read it, or crack the spine, or write my name in it, or breathe on it! Anyway, I thought I’d share it with you guys, because it’s super pretty…I mean, look at it!

So the book is written by one of my fave authors (which is what drew me to it in the first place), Jodi Picoult, but she’s written it with Samantha Van Leer, who is…drum roll please…her daughter! Cool, right!? Right. The story itself sounds awesome. Here’s what the description on GoodReads says:

“Delilah, a loner, hates school as much as she loves books— one book in particular. In fact if anyone knew how many times she has read and reread the sweet little fairy tale she found in the library, especially her cooler than cool classmates, she’d be sent to social Siberia forever.To Delilah, though, this fairy tale is more than just words on the page. Sure, there’s a handsome (well, okay, incredibly handsome) prince, and a castle, and an evil villain, but it feels as if there’s something deeper going on. And one day, Delilah finds out there is. Turns out, this Prince Charming is not just a one-dimensional character in a book. He’s real, and a certain fifteen-year-old loner has caught his eye. But they’re from two different worlds, and how can it ever possibly work?”

 

What!? Um, awesome! Bring it on! But anyway, back to the actual physical book. What I love about it is…well, it’s everything. The cover has this beautiful picture on it, and it’s border is shiny gold lacy-looking pretty thing. What else? It’s got pictures, my friends! A novel with pictures!

Something else that I discovered when I opened the book (carefully) in the shop, was that the chapters are in different colours. The two characters have their own colour (Delilah is green, and Oliver is a purpley/blue colour), so the actual text on the page changes every chapter. There’s also black, which, by the looks of things is the overarching story chapters. It sounds confusing, but I don’t think it will be.

So what do you think? Pretty, huh? I want to read it…but I don’t, because I don’t want to ruin it. I’ll have to read it super carefully I think, as not to bend the pages or crack the spin too much. Maybe I’ll even use a bookmark! *gasp!*
