A Month of Books :: Vampire Books

Sorry everyone, but it had to be done. In recent years there’s been a sudden rush of vampire books, but there have been stories of vampires for so long it’s crazy. Books like Dracula, and then Interview with a Vampire, and of course, the Twilight Saga are just some of the books, but there are so many more out there. I haven’t really read too many, to be honest, but there are so many popular ones out there that I thought it was worth an entire post. I apologise to all those of you out there who hate vampire books…you can stop reading right if you want to.

The Twilight Saga, by Stephanie Meyer
I’ve mentioned before that I liked Twilight and had read it before it became all the rage, and I actually really enjoyed the books. It was definitely the movies that ruined it all for me, but I wouldn’t mind re reading the books.

The Vampire Diaires, by L.J. Smith
Now, I haven’t actually read these books, and apparently they are very different the TV series (which is one of my all time favourite shows). But despite that, my best friend has read them all and really liked them.

A Discovery of Witches, by Deborah Harkness
This isn’t a teenage vampire love story. It’s about a witch who studies in Oxford, England, and meets a vampire. You may recall my review of it, you may not, but I really enjoyed this book. It’s very well written and it’s has witches, vampires and werewolves in it, but not in the teenage/Twilight kind of way. It’s much more…grown up? There isn’t any ‘adult content’, if you know what I mean, but I guess it’s more…mature really? Oh, I don’t know. Read my review, or read it for yourself; that might be best.

Then there are books like the Vampire Academy (Richelle Mead), the Sookie Stackhouse books ( Charlaine Harris – Also the books the TV show True Blood is based on), and House of Night series (P.C. Cast), books I haven’t read. All I’ve heard mixed reviews about, and I don’t know if I’ll ever read them, but they are there. The Mortal Instrument books also have vampires in them, but aren’t solely based on vampires, like many books out there.
