I Visited Orebro Sweden

I had the chance to visit Orebro, Sweden and it was magical

A trip to Sweden started off with the opportunity to visit Orebro.

I mentioned a few days ago that I went to Sweden last Wednesday (29th May). My dad had to go for a work trip for a few days (something that never happened in New Zealand, it being so far away from the rest of the world), and because it was in the school holidays (a time when I don’t work), I was able to go with him. We flew out and into Heathrow, so we had to get the bus to the airport from our city, which took about 3 hours. To get to the first place we were going, we had to do so much changing of transport.

I wrote this as a Facebook status when we finally got to our hotel room:

To get here to Orebro, I took a car/taxi to catch the bus to the airport, where I took a train to the other terminal, where I rode a travellator to get to the bus that took me to the plane…Which flew to the airport, where I took the lift down to the train which took me to other train station to get a train which took me to Orebro, where I got in a car that took me to the hotel, where I climbed the stairs to my room. Guys, pro traveller, right here.

So it took a while (from 7am till about 9 pm on Wednesday), but we finally made it to Orebro, where we were until Friday evening. Because Dad was there for work, he was busy all of Thursday and the majority of Friday. This meant I had to wander the streets of the Swedish city by myself. Thank goodness most people have some English, otherwise, I would have been lost and hungry by about 11am.

The city of Orebro is really pretty though, and I had plenty to take pictures of for most of the day. Because it was quite small, on Friday I had already seen everything I wanted to see, so I went to an art store, bought a sketch pad and some pencils and sat in front of the Orebro Slott (Orebro castle) and drew for a few hours in the sun.

But on Thursday, I wandered around the streets and discovered a huge and beautiful park with little gardens all the way through it and lovely sculptures scattered among the trees. It really was lovely. I took a stroll around there for a few hours on Thursday morning, and by the time I got back to where I had started, it was really warm and I definitely needed that chocolate sundae I bought at the park cafe.

I was in the park for the morning and then wandered around the city, snapping away as I did. It was really nice actually, with the castle in the middle and then wide open spaces (not like in England!), and grass everywhere. There was a river running right through the city, which meant that the castle had a moat!

On Friday afternoon, we got a train back into Stockholm, where we took another train that took us down to a place called Handen, where some family friends had booked us a room in the only hotel in town (heh heh!). We went to their place for dinner that evening, and then they showed us around Stockholm on Saturday…but that’s a story for part two!
